Jackie Miao is a Malaysian Social Entrepreneur, Lifestyle Blogger, Vocalist, Producer/Presenter and Media Personality.
She has been featured in some 30 media outlets including the New York Times, BBC, Discovery Channel Asia, ASTRO, NTV7, TV3, The New Straits Times, The Malaysian Star, The Edge, The Malay Mail, and Expatriate Lifestyle Magazine.
Jackie is most passionate about affecting positive social change through opportunity creation, youth inspiration and active participation. An advocate of the creative use of traditional and social media in her work, she does everything with emphasis on viral effectiveness and measurement.
She may be best remembered as the Malaysian who beat 36,000 applicants globally to be one of the ‘Top 50 finalists’ for the ‘Best Job in the World,’ but her passion for social service is best highlighted in her recent work with Twestival Kota Kinabalu.
Jackie grew up in her home state of Sabah, Malaysia, where she was bitten by the travel bug very early in her childhood. Her father was a merchant mariner who sailed around the world and ran a tour company while she was growing up. She left to study in Hawaii when she was 16, and lived abroad for a total of 10 years between Honolulu, New York, London, and Kuala Lumpur.

As the owner of MEDIATROPICA, a boutique digital marketing and web services consultancy based in Malaysia, Jackie leverages 13 years of her experience in the U.S., U.K. and Asia Pacific digital markets to service a select list of clients.
UNITED STATES
She is an award-winning web developer in the United States, whose work on the British Airways account in 1998/1999 helped earn the nationally-coveted Addy Award from the American Advertising Federation for Agency.com. For more information on her work in the U.S., please view her New York portfolio.
ASIA
In 2001, Miao moved back to Malaysia and founded Centroworks Sdn. Bhd., a small interactive consultancy in specializing in web development and online marketing strategy for luxury travel, hospitality and lifestyle clients in the Asia Pacific region. As Executive Director her responsibilities include new business development, planning and strategy, production, account management and project management. UNITED KINGDOM
After 5 years, Jackie decided it was time to explore other landscapes and found herself in London doing digital project management for an advertising agency during her 2-year Work-Holiday. Miao spent 5 months contracting at McCann Erickson London, where she managed the production of digital projects for UPS, Genworth Financial, L’oreal, HP, The Evening Standard, and BMW Bikes. PRESENTING, HOSTING & EMCEE WORK IN MALAYSIA
Her presenting work includes hosting the 1st Blaupunkt Sound Challenge in Asia and emceeing for Manhunt International (Sabah Selection). Miao was also a Malaysian semi-finalist for the Discovery Channel Globe Trekker Search for a Host competition held in 2004. English is her first language and she speaks conversational Mandarin, Cantonese, Hakka and some Bahasa Melayu.
She moved back to Asia in May 2009 and have been managing a small portfolio of clients in the luxury yachting, spa and hospitality industry while she was working on startups. In December 2010, she founded Mediatropica.
In her spare time, she is active in leisure pursuits which include running, mountain biking, and other outdoor sports. Miao is also passionate about music, film and reading. Her life passion includes going places, exploring ideas and connecting with people from all walks of life.
